Research areas of the Laboratory for Telecommunications include distributed cyber-physical systems, digitization, and security. Technology areas include the Internet of things, communication protocols, 5G and 6G networks, cyber security, blockchain, and data. The vertical sectors supported by ICT technology areas are smart cities, villages and communities, energy, industry, critical infrastructure and public safety. Research areas are in line with the Digital Europe 2021-2027 programs, the EU Cybersecurity Act, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity Programming Document 2019-2021.
The Laboratory for Telecommunications traditionally cooperates with companies on development projects and thus enabling both-way knowledge transfer. The Laboratory runs the ICT Academy, which provides hands-on training to companies and institutions (https://www.ict-academy.eu)
The members of the laboratory participated in the establishment and operation of the following institutions: Center of Excellence for Information and Communication Technology (CoE ICT), Technology Network for Information and Communication Technology (TN ICT), Ljubljana University Incubator (LUI), Digital Innovation Hub of Slovenia (DIHS), Private, Public, People, Partnership Digital Innovation Hub (4PDIH), Makerlab Ljubljana, Fablab network Slovenia, ICT Academy (ICTA).
