As part of its education and training activities in the framework of its defence standardisation actions, the European Defence Agency (EDA) organized a pilot webinar on March 15, 2022, on »European Defence Standardisation«.

The objective of the webinar was to present the latest developments on EU defence standardization, to strengthen the European defence standardisation community by exchanging views, increasing mutual understanding, and promoting cooperation among EDA standardisation stakeholders. The need for qualitative defence and civil standards as essential elements for the development of interoperable capabilities needed to boost the EU's security and defence clout was emphasised.

Around 120 defence standardisation experts and stakeholders from the Member States and others, as well as representatives of the SiEnE partnership attended the workshop.

As part of its education and training activities in the framework of its defence standardisation actions, the European Defence Agency (EDA) organized a pilot webinar on March 15, 2022, entitled »European Defence Standardisation«.

The objective of the webinar was to present the latest activities in the field of EU defence standardization development, to strengthen the European defence standardisation community by exchanging views, increasing mutual understanding, and promoting cooperation among EDA standardisation stakeholders.

Experts emphasized the importance of the EU’s standardization strategy (published in February 2022) and the role of the EDA as an interface between the participating Member States and wider EU policies.

The need for qualitative defence and civil standards as essential elements for the development of interoperable capabilities needed to boost the EU’s security and defence clout was emphasised. In this respect, the benefits of EDA’s European Defence Standards Reference System (EDSTAR) platform, which is the main interoperability tool for European defence standardisation, were particularly emphasised.

Besides the representatives of the SiEnE partnership, the webinar was attended by around 120 defence standardisation experts and stakeholders from the Member States, industry, NATO, Frontex, as well as Norway and Serbia.

Partnership SiEnE represents a point of contact to establish and foster international collaboration between Slovenian stakeholders and international partners on energy-related topics (civil use, military use or dual-use) through different international defence programs (e.g., EDA’s EnE CapTech, IF CEED, CF SEEDS), projects and global defence value chains.
