The kick-off meeting of the HibroM RDI Project was successfully organised on Tuesday, 29th of August 2023 gathering the partners and the representatives of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia (SI MoD).

At the first working meeting held at the Auditorium of SI MoD, the representatives of project partners, known subcontractors and the end user showed a high level of engagement and interest in participating in collaborative development activities of the project. We are pleased with the excellent participation of various profiles of experts, as well as representatives of end users of the integrated developed solution (SI MoD and the Slovenian Army).

The project belongs to the strategic area of operation of the Slovenian Partnership for Energy and the Environment in the Defense Field (SiEnE). The partnership addresses green transition, energy and environmental challenges in defence by a comprehensive approach to foster civilian and defence stakeholder collaboration.

HibroM: Development of hybrid mobile Microgrids for deployable dual-use camps

The main goal of the RDI project HibroM is the development of innovative solutions for introducing alternative energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. During the course of the RDI HibroM project, (an integrated) system is to be developed, aiming for a rapid setup of a functioning, smart, and managed micro-grid on the field.

Additional objectives of the Hibrom RDI Project are:

  • reduction of operating costs, noise emissions, and EM radiation
  • increase in energy efficiency
  • introduction of energy storage technologies
  • reduction of the logistical and environmental footprint
  • monitoring of produced and consumed energy for further improvements

The project activities are foreseen on the technological readiness level (TRL) from (5)6 to 8. The final results of the project have to be at the level of TRL 8.

Developed innovative solutions of the HibroM project will include:

  • Mobile adaptable hybrid diesel generator with energy-storage capability,
  • Smart distribution box
  • Smart microgrid network with a digital twin
  • Monitoring of produced and consumed energy

Advantages of newly developed solutions include

  • scalability,
  • flexibility and
  • interoperability of the assembly.

Partners:

  • TECES (lead partner)
  • Robotina d.o.o.,
  • TAB d.d.,
  • Stubelj d.o.o.

Known subcontractors:

  • SMARTIS d.o.o.,
  • TPV Prikolice d.o.o.,
  • UL Faculty of Electrical Engineering,
  • UL Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and
  • UM Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics

Strategic plan for the greening of the defense sector

RDI project HibroM belongs to the strategic area of operation of the Slovenian Partnership for Energy and the Environment in the Defense Field (SiEnE).

The partnership addresses green transition, energy, and environmental challenges in defence by a comprehensive approach to foster civilian and defence stakeholder collaboration. The members of the partnership are regularly involved in cooperation in international defence programmes, projects, and global value chains.

The »HibroM« RDI Project will be continuously aligned with SI national and EU defence programs and projects (eg. INDY, EDF 2021) and the guidelines of the EU Commission for the green transition of defence sector.

International collaboration in greening defence

The green transition in the field of defence is actively supported by the European Commission through tenders from the European Defence Fund (EDF).
TECES and the SiEnE partnership ensure constant alignment of Slovenian projects with the guidelines of the European Commission for green transition.

The forthcoming innovative RDI solutions set to be developed by the HibroM Project coincide with the international green transition guidelines. Partners of the HibroM project are highly skilled in international collaboration in the field of green transition technologies.
